The National Popcorn Day is a day that celebrates one of America’s favorite snacks. The brain behind this unique holiday is not known. National Popcorn Day is observed on January 19 while October is marked as the popcorn month.

The origin of National Popcorn Day is unknown. For the popcorn snack, however, it’s origin tends to be debatable. Some people claim it started from the Super Bowl as people looked for a simple snack to take to the game. However, this theory has been disputed by many.

America alone consumes 16 to 17 billion quarts of popcorn annually. These figures would mean that every person in the USA consumes approximately 52 quarts per year. Each year sees a 5% increase in the volume making it one of the most favorite snacks in America. Two-thirds of the popcorn is consumed at home and the rest at events and games tournaments.

The government does not recognize the day and as such the employers observe this day as a typical workday.
