Daylight Saving Day marks the end of the Daylight-Saving Period that had started in March. This simply means that you will get an extra hour of darkness as Winter kicks off. The night will, therefore, come earlier in the afternoon.
What is the history of Daylight Saving Day?
During the ancient Rome, the clock would be changed to match the sunrise and setting. It was not until 1895 that George Hudson, a New Zealand entomologist, presented a proposal of a more modernized daylight saving concept. In 1908, William Willet observed how Londoners would sleep for more hours during summer and therefore proposed to advance the clock during the summer months. In 1908, Port Arthur, Ontario, became the first city to implement the daylight saving time. Other European countries followed suit shortly after, and the US adopted the concept in 1918.
When is Daylight Saving Day?
Daylight Saving Day is on the first Sunday in November. At midnight, the clock is usually set back, meaning an hour is gained during Winter.
Why Daylight Saving Day?
Daylight Saving Day was constituted as a means to enjoy more daylight. The concept, therefore, helps us adjust official times and thus have more time for our activities. It keeps us off artificial light and offers more time to enjoy Vitamin D outdoors. Some studies indicate that Daylight Saving reduces our electricity demand.
Things to do on Daylight Saving Day
November's first Sunday is a day to get ready for some change in time. From November till March, be prepared to wake up earlier than usual. Try to spend that extra time doing something special like cooking a special breakfast for the family or evening a morning jog to lose those calories.
If you are a party person, then it's a great time to have fun. Most bars take full advantage of the extra hour to offer their customers special drinks. That translates to more time to spend with your friends.
Daylight Saving Day is also a time to get outside and feel the crisp air as the leaves change their color. A morning jog, walk, or even hike may actually make you enjoy the weather even more.
